Elgin Illinois 1908

Todays post is a postcard of Elgin Illinois Fountain Square. The card was postally used in 1908. Since half of my known readership is familiar with Elgin I have been looking for things associated with there and had forgotten I had this. Elgin has changed so much it's hard to picture this as being there. Shame too that the photo on the card is small and not the best resolution.

  1. David: I like this site. It has good commentary, great pictures, and... pictures of my hometown! You are right - it's amazing the amount of changes that take place. The downtown buildings I remember as a kid are either non-existent or not the business that was there. The library I spent HOURS and DAYS in as a high school/college student is now part of a business store - at least it was a decade ago when I was last in Elgin. Change is inevitable.

My fondest hope is that this site will boom! It takes time, but people will find it.

  2. I don't go downtown Elgin anymore. There was a time I would go there for Carlson's art and there was the deli-newsstand. It has changed so much, kind of died out and they attempted to reinvigorate it by closing off some streets to traffic. As far as I know the only attraction is the boat which I do my best to stay clear of since retiring.
As far as readership, the more the merrier but having one or two readers that enjoy is good enough for me.
